Revitalizing aging infrastructure along a key corridor, this project focused on replacing water and sanitary sewer mains over three blocks of 2nd Avenue, stretching from Quebec Street to Main Street. With over 330 metres of water main, 350 metres of sanitary sewer, and 34 service connections being upgraded, the project was a major step toward improving utility reliability in the area.
In order to limit business disruptions during construction, the work was carefully staged one block at a time. Temporary fencing was provided to maintain sidewalk access, while temporary water systems kept services running smoothly. Close coordination with residents and businesses helped minimize disruptions, and thoughtful planning ensured traffic could flow through unaffected blocks. With a total budget of just over $1 million, the project balances essential upgrades with community-first construction practices.
