Carleen Bartel, P.Eng.

Principal Design Engineer

Carleen is a small town girl from the Village of Meacham, SK (technically a villager) and moved to Saskatoon in 1999 to attain a degree in Civil Engineering from the College of Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan in 2004. She started as an Engineer-in-Training at C&W after promoting science and engineering to youth throughout her university days as an instructor and director of SCI-FI Engineering Summer Science Camps. After gaining experience as a field and project engineer, Carleen became a third-generation and first female, Partner in 2010.

 

Carleen developed her experience in municipal engineering as a project engineer, seeing projects through from start to finish, including sewer and water, sidewalks and streets for residential and commercial projects in Martensville, Dalmeny & Saskatoon. Carleen approaches projects with a focus on practical solutions that meet the specific needs and constraints of each situation. From design, specifications, tendering, contract administration, project management, field surveying and staking, she did it all. She gained valuable experience from her mentors and team at C&W and has enjoyed working with the numerous contractors, designers, municipal administrators, public works employees, and developers she’s met over the years.

 

Carleen continues to be involved with planning for growth, providing infrastructure servicing strategies, roadway rehabilitation & drainage improvements, asset management studies, levy reviews, development standard updates and assists with comprehensive development reviews and sector plans for communities and developers.  She is also Catterall & Wrights COR auditor and works closely with their safety officer to promote a safe work culture. As a partner, she helps with a host of business management tasks such as marketing, insurance and human resources for their growing business. She also provides senior management of the firm’s Survey group.

 

Carleen is a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Saskatchewan (APEGS) and maintains Permission to Consult in the field of Municipal Engineering. She holds membership with the Association of Consulting Engineers Canada -Saskatchewan (ACEC-SK). She is president of the Commercial Real Estate Women’s Network provincial chapter (CREW Sask), a local chapter within a global network whose aim is to support and advance women in the qualified fields of commercial real estate.  She is also a founding member of the Female Engineers, Architects & Technologists (FEAT) Luncheon Group, which serves to provide women in STEM related fields to network at monthly events.  She loves to network and promote the advancement of females in non-traditional fields.  Carleen loves the outdoors and can be found at her cabin enjoying summer and winter lake activities with her husband and daughter.
