SaskPoly Saskatoon Campus Traffic Impact Assessment

Client:
SaskPolytechnic / SaskBuilds&Procurement
Catterall & Wright was retained to prepare a comprehensive Traffic Impact Study to support the development of Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s new centralized campus at Innovation Place in Saskatoon. The future campus will include five new and renovated buildings, daycare facilities, and over 1,100 parking stalls, designed to serve more than 5,700 students and staff by 2034.

The study evaluated traffic operations at 10 key intersections, with a focus on Preston Avenue, where targeted improvements were proposed to support future growth and enhance the level of service for all road users. A traffic signal coordination and optimization plan was developed to manage peak-hour demand, while enhancements to pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure were also recommended. These included active transportation upgrades and the implementation of an exclusive pedestrian phase at the Research Drive intersection to improve safety and accessibility.

This project supports Sask Polytech’s vision for a sustainable, multi-modal campus integrated into the broader Saskatoon transportation network.
